South Bend Form Tool uses the reciprocating horizontal bed grinding method for our precision surface grinding needs. This method of grinding is regarded as a high-quality precision surface grinding process. This style of surface grinding is used to achieve flat, parallel, and square surfaces on critical components. Our surface grinding machine is equipped with a magnetic table to hold ferrous parts, while special work-holding arrangements are required for non-ferrous parts. Component part size can be controlled incrementally in ten-thousandths of inches.

• Surface grinders will leave a smooth, linear surface finish, typically within a 16 - 32 RMS.
• Flat, parallel, square, and uniformity tolerances less than 0.0005.
• Dimensional tolerance frequently requested is ±0.0002.
• Ferrous or non-ferrous metals, up to 62 RC

Other grinding wheels are available depending upon the needs of the material being worked, for example: ceramic grain, borazon and diamond wheels.

Our full service capabilities ensure the shortest delivery schedule possible.

We have the ability to receive and work with AutoCAD and SurfCam drawings.  We are also fully capable of receiving other source software such as Catia and converting them over to DWG or DXF files to be used on the production floor.

This process of file conversion allows our machine operators to program any of their CNC machining centers to produce the most elaborate parts in the shortest possible time.
